N.3.C.R.0 - IBM LINKING RING REVIEW
N.3.C.R.O. is one of those rare pocket effects that work for mainstream magicians, mystery entertainers, séance workers, or hardcore bizarrists who prefer darker and more disturbing performance pieces. The premise is that you and your audience will explore the rumors surrounding an infamous American Victorian-era lunatic asylum. The asylum is a place where a secret medical society allegedly existed. This society believed that unexplained medical conditions in some of their patients were, in fact, cases of demonic possession.
A spectator freely selects one of sixteen morgue toe tags. Each tag contains six pieces of information unique to that deceased patient and the experiments performed on him. Even though only the spectator knows the information, you begin to reveal bits and pieces of the experiments. As you disclose the information, a sinister story begins to form, leading to a disturbing conclusion. The scripting is tight and logically builds to a satisfying and disquieting conclusion.
The backstory is solid, the toe tag props are aged and look authentic, the reveal process is easy to follow and logical, and the effect is impactful. Use it as a one-on-one mental mystery for mainstream close-up or parlor audiences or as the centerpiece for a sinister foray into the supernatural for a mystery evening event. It’s perfect for séance work.
The price of the aged toe tags may seem a bit steep, but the aging process adds considerably to the story’s believability. N.3.C.R.O. packs small (it fits in your pocket), but the effect plays strong. I added a pendulum to the effect and enjoyed excellent reactions. By the way, N.3.C.R.O. stands for Neuro Ethereal Craniotomy Research of the Occult. Were the asylum patients possessed, or was it all in their head? The answer depends on your audience.

THE DRUID - IBM LINKING RING REVIEW
The Druid ESP set is one of those rare products that comes along about every decade and completely reframes a classic of magic in a way that significantly bolsters the performer’s ability to connect with a modern audience.
MR. Darkness transformed the venerable but archaic ESP symbols concept that required a lot of often dull explanations into a story about Druids, Magic, and Divinization that instantly captures the audience’s attention. It is a complete re-imaging of the ESP concept from the imagery to the presentation plot that will completely alter how you think about your ESP effects and the kinds of storylines you can create.
Instead of boring playing cards and patter about science experiments that modern audiences can’t relate to, the Druid ESP cards hook your audience with mystique and magic. The transformation from ho-hum to mysterious and memorable starts with twelve black plastic cards, each about the size and thickness of a credit card. The backs have what appear to be tree roots and branches on a black background. The cards are marked. The markings are so subtle that the spectator will never spot them, but you won’t have any trouble seeing them once you know what to look for.
The face of the cards is also black, with the same intertwined roots motif used for each symbol. The symbols are a pair of circles, triangles, stars, crosses, and squares. The cards allow you to perform most of your favorite small packets ESP effects. The cards come with six routines and a 40-page nicely produced booklet.
The strongest effects and patter do NOT center on the usual ESP match-the-card effects. Instead, Druid ESP set focuses on the meaning of each symbol and how they play into the spectator’s life.
I found the pointer card very useful for various storylines and past, present, and future effects. The set of cards is very versatile. Mystery Entertainers will love the cards and the storytelling possibilities.

I have a couple of dozen ESP cards, decks, and effects in my collection. Each is a variation on a basic theme with cards that look like playing cards with ESP symbols printed on them. The Druid ESP set stands out from the rest in every respect. I can instantly engage the audience without saying a word by simply taking the wallet out. There is no need for boring scientific experiment storylines to set up the effect.
